Bupleurum chinense: [synonym] Yinhu (seeking truth from the grass), shancaigen, shanmata Caigen (Shandong traditional Chinese Medicine), tripe root, shashener, baigenzi, and tushen (Chinese medicine records).
[source] is the root of Caryophyllaceae.
It grows in the dry grassland, stone crevices or gravels of hanging rocks. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, etc.
[collection] harvest in autumn, remove the stems, leaves and fibrous roots, wash them and dry them in the sun.
[medicinal materials] the dried roots are cylindrical, 15-40 cm long and 1-2.5 cm in diameter. There are many small verrucous protuberances on the top of the root, which are stalk marks on the ground. They are dense and white. They are often called "Pearl plates". The surface is yellowish brown or grayish brown, with twisted longitudinal lines and branch root marks, and most circular holes can be seen, commonly known as "trachoma", especially near the root head, where it is broken, with brown patterns on the section.
